How Gardening Reduces Stress and Brings Peace

Nowadays, it has become very difficult to bring happiness into one’s life in a busy day. I am writing this article to share with you how I find peace even in the midst of this. This is not just my story, for those of us who are extremely busy with our daily work lives, with project deadlines and boss scolding at the office, one thing that can give us peace is Gardening. Whatever you may say, gardening is a gift of nature that no one can deny.

1. Gardening acts as a natural stress reliever :

  • I am saying this from my own experience. When you raise a child from a his or her birth, just like when you plant a sapling or its seed at home and water it daily, give it sunlight in the morning and take care of it every day, after the hard work of the whole day and at the end when that sapling slowly grows, it shows all its love to you with its beautiful green leaves or fruits or flowers, that feeling cannot be explained.
  • And then when you touch soil, breathe in the beautiful, fresh, clean air, your brain releases a hormone called serotonin – which regulates our mood.
  • Even few minutes with plants :
    • Reduces stress
    • Reduces anger
    • Reduces tension
    • It calms you down in a simple way.

2. Plants create a peaceful environment :

I have loved taking care of trees since I was a child, I have planted many types of trees, like I made a small garden of flowers and once I grew many types of vegetables and I didn’t even understand it was called gardening. I still remember those days when I would go to water the trees first after school in the afternoon, I would get a lot of peace from my heart taking care of them. As soon as I entered my garden, I would feel a different positive energy.
There was only peace and quiet in my garden, although sadly I have lost that garden now, now the garden has turned into balcony gardening.

3. Gardening Builds Responsibility :

Just as when you plant a seed, it also creates your responsibility, similarly when a plant grows from the seed, it happily carries responsibility and this responsibility is not like the responsibility of the office, this responsibility is to love and cherish it, which I have understood long ago.
This responsibility teaches us to love, teaches us to keep away from worries, in my opinion.

4. Touching the ground helps release happy hormones :

Soil contains a natural bacteria called Mycobacterium vaccae, which increases serotonin levels in the brain.
That’s why gardeners often say:
“After gardening, I feel lighter and happier” – This is not fantasy – it’s science I also believe that.

5. Gardening keeps you away from stressful screens :

You will understand this by thinking about it yourself. When you return home after doing all the work, you will understand that if you have a small or large garden, you will spend time there which is good for both the plants and you. And if you don’t have such a garden, then you will naturally go crazy behind the screen.
Even spending 15-20 minutes with plants replaces negative energy with tranquility. Right?

Practical tips for reducing stress through gardening

  1. Start your gardening journey with 2 – 3 indoor plants.
  2. Use your own hand not any things to touch soil, means grounding.
  3. Keep one plant at your task desk , will give positive energy and good air too.
  4. Spend at least 30 minutes, if you have much, you can spend more.
  5. Give water to plants every day if needed , it gives you peace and keeps away from negative stuffs.

Conclusion

At the end of writing this blog, I just want to say that this is not a mind-blowing story, it is true that I felt this since childhood, so today I am able to sit and write this with a healthy mind, and I even have a small natural tree on my desk now.
At the beginning of writing, I also said that gardening is a hobby, it is an emotion that will actually turn your life into a well-organized garden and you will forget everything and find a reason to be calm and above all, you will get the opportunity to live a very healthy and natural life with the power of nature.
